We work to the government service design standards.

The HM Land Registry Design System extends the GOV.UK Design System and Service Manual, to include items that don’t exist there, or for situations unique to Land Registry.

Why we work to the government standard for design.

Which design system to use

  1. Services hosted on service.gov.uk will use the GOV.UK Design System. This is a requirement from the GOV.UK Service Manual.
  2. New services not on .gov.uk will use the HM Land Registry Design System. This is required as part of the HM Land Registry platform development standards.
  3. Existing services not on .gov.uk will aim to adapt to use the HM Land Registry Design System.

Using the Design System

  1. Services will use components, patterns and styles from the GOV.UK Design System when they are available and applicable.
  2. Services will use HM Land Registry components, patterns and styles when they are available and applicable and when they do not exist in the GOV.UK Design System.
  3. Diverge only when you can demonstrate that existing government and practice guidance does not work in your context.
  4. You should follow the government Service Manual design guidance, Design System, and writing style first
